Howard D. Paul Obituary (1926 - 2007)

“G-Pa Howie” Howard Davis Paul, 81, died Sept. 18, 2007, of heart failure. He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Salt Lake City, the second of six children born to George W. and Margarete Davis Paul. He grew up in Holladay, graduating from Granite High School. From June 1946 to June 1948 he served a mission for the LDS Church in the Eastern States Mission, the memories of which he treasured throughout his life. He attended BYU and the University of Utah until he left for military training. He graduated from the Army Brooks Medical School in San Antonio, Texas and Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver as a surgical technician, then served at the 171st Station Hospital during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return, he met his lifelong sweetheart, Jody Campbell. They were married on Nov. 5, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five children, 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He cherished them all, and earned the endearing title of “Grandpa Howie.” He held many positions in the LDS Church, but his favorite was being an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple for 12 years. He was employed by Husky Oil for 30 years. He leaves behind a great legacy of faith for his family, and is survived by his wife; daughters, Debbie Robertson (Michael), Kathie Marsh (Jeffrey); sons, Stephen (Debbie), and Brian (Wendy). Grandchildren: Eric, Matthew, Curtis, Courtney, Jason, Jami, Korey, Kelley, Shaun, Whitney, Brianna, Spencer, Addison, Ethan, and Campbell. Great-grandchildren: Rylee and Taylor. Siblings: Margaret Baker-Phillips, Anne Erekson, and Robert Paul. Now in the hands of the God he loves, he is enjoying a sweet reunion with his son, Boyd, his parents, and two brothers, George and Jerry. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at the Brownstone Chapel, 6410 S. 725 E. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State and at the church on Saturday from 10–10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund, 50 E.
