Hugh Elsworth Holt Obituary (1921 - 2008)

Hugh Elsworth Holt died surrounded by his family on March 7, 2008 of causes incident to age. Born in Parowan, Utah on January 23, 1921 to George O. and Juliette C. Adams Holt, he was raised in Enterprise, Washington County, Utah. He married Lora Lee Larsen on March 31, 1951 in the St. George Temple. Dad worked on the family farm until called to serve his country. He joined the US Army, and served in England during World War II. After returning from the war he once again worked the farm with his brothers. Dad moved his family to Salt Lake City where he held positions at Hercules and St. Mary of the Wasatch School. He retired from the VA Hospital. In his younger years Dad was a basketball player, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to go to Yellowstone National Park. He enjoyed tending his garden and fruit trees. He was also an avid player of board games, a passion shared by his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his children: Junell (Robert) Bott, Sheryl (Cory) Stark, Jason (Jennifer) Holt, 10 grandchildren: Joshua (Denise), Tyler (Dannielle), Mindy, Alex, Melanie, and Sierra Stark, Robert Bott, Jr.; Spencer, Benjamin, and Nathan Holt; One great-grandchild, Isabella Stark, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, Murray, Utah, on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, March 12, at 12:00 noon, at the LDS Southgate Ward on 2702 South Main Street, with a viewing one hour prior to services. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the people who cared for Dad in his last days, including Dr. Pedersen, Dr. Dall, the staff of the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home, and Hospice for Utah, with special thanks to Julie Garlitz, RN. Interment at Murray City Cemetery.
