Inez Fay Williams Meyers Obituary (1923 - 2018)

MURRAY: Inez Fay Williams Meyers, age 94, passed away April 25, 2018. Born October 24, 1923 to Elmer Millard and Nellie Mae Wardell-Williams in East Mill Creek, Utah. Married William S. Meyers, Jr. (from Brooklyn, New York) on August 26, 1943, at the Army Air Force Base, Camp Kearns, Utah, where her husband was stationed during the war. (Married 65 years before her husband passed away in 2009). Fay grew up in West Jordan, Utah and graduated from Jordan High School. She worked at the Midvale and Salt Lake Unemployment Office; she also worked as a secretary for the Building and Construction Trades Council of the A F of L Union in Salt Lake City. She worked as a bookkeeper for Hi-land Dairy, and as a teacher’s aide at Parkside Elementary School in Murray. Fay was very active in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in Utah. She served as State President in 1980-82 and was successful in receiving the Medal of Valor Plaque in honor of all Utahans who gave their lives for their country and also a Utah State Flag placed at the Arlington National Cemetery. She visited the White House and met Rosalyn Carter, wife of US President Jimmy Carter. She was active and held many positions in the Murray Junior Women’s Club and the Murray Ladies Civic Guild. She was successful in many community accomplishments. She was on TV twice stating: “What’s Right with America” produced by Bernie Calderwood. For many years she volunteered at the VA Hospital. Fay and her husband, Bill, liked to travel back and forth to Brooklyn, New York to visit her in-laws. She especially loved her daughter, Mary, and son, Bill III; two granddaughters, seven great- granddaughters, and one great-grandson Fay is survived by her two granddaughters, Molly (Mark) Pettriess and Kate McPhail; her seven great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Joan (Douglas) Lloyd and Mavis Skinner. Preceded in death by husband, Bill Jr; daughter, Mary Beth Kavanagh Maynes; son, Bill III, her parents; four sisters; and two brothers. The family would like to thank the staff of Carrington Court Assisted Living and Encompass Home Health and Hospice Group, and especially Marie, for their loving care. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray City Cemetery, 5600 South Vine Street (700 East), Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah.
