J. Gordon Reynolds Obituary (1926 - 2018)

Jay Gordon Reynolds, 92, passed away of natural causes on November 17, 2018. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 2, 1926 to Heber Clyde Reynolds and Ella May Jacklyn Reynolds. He married his sweetheart, Virjean Hortin, on November 21, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple by Joseph Fielding Smith. For 73 years they loved and cherished each other. Gordon and Jean met on a blind date, went out together on more dates, and a short time later Gordon went into the Navy, serving in WWII. Jean wrote to him every day of the two years he was in the Navy. Jean and Gordon are the parents of five children (4 boys and 1 girl) and have 17 grandchildren (13 boys and 4 girls) and 53 great-grandchildren. Ten of their grandsons have gone on missions, with three younger ones looking forward to when they, too, can go on a mission Gordon was the vice president and co-owner of Reynolds Brothers Excavating, where he worked for 47 years and was known and respected by all for his hard work and integrity. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has previously served in the Elders Quorum, as a Sunday School President, as a Boy Scout Leader, as a Stake Missionary for 30 months, as a member of the High Priest group leadership, and as a home teacher. He enjoyed spending time at Bear Lake in the summers and in St. George during the winters. He loved the outdoors and activities with each of his children. He loved everything with a motor and could fix anything. He collected knives and western memorabilia. The highlight of his life was spending time with his family and grandkids where he kept us laughing with his endless stories and sense of humor. Gordon is survived by his sweet wife, Virjean; children: J. Gordon Jr. (Marsha), Reed Scott (Dorothy), Gary Robert (Barbara), Tami Jean Schaar (Craig), Brian Troy (Shannon); daughter-in-law, Janet Wooten; 17 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; sister: Norma Colleen Boyce. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Shirley Reynolds and Charles Calvin Reynolds, and sadly his sister, Donna Louise Marsden, passed away November 22, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Holladay 25th LDS Ward located at 4650 Naniloa Drive, Holladay, Utah. Viewings will be held on Friday, November 23 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah, and on Saturday, November 24 from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the church preceding the funeral service. Interment at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah.
