JC Glade Perry Obituary (1942 - 2019)

J.C. Glade Perry, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on October 20, 2019 after a brave fight with aggressive brain cancer. Glade was born on May 1, 1942 to Ivan Perry and Hannah Laurie Hair Perry in Vernal, Utah as the youngest of three children. Glade moved to Provo, Utah in June 1946 when he was four years old and spent his childhood living every boy’s dreams enjoying playing basketball, tennis, water skiing, fishing and hunting. Glade especially enjoyed spending time in the canyon on the Provo River fishing for trout. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the Duty to God award, and as a young man won several trophies in driving contests. He graduated from Provo High School in June 1960. After graduation, Glade enrolled at Brigham Young University to pursue a degree in engineering. In July 1961 he postponed school to serve in the French Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he learned the French language and served for 30 months. His mission overseas sparked the beginning of a life-long love affair of exploring and traveling. Glade returned to BYU after his mission and in June 1966 met Carolyn Emma Stevenson at a dance in the BYU Wilkinson Center. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City temple on November 18, 1966. They enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary in true Glade-celebratory fashion with a Mediterranean cruise with his loving wife, their four children and their childrens’ spouses. Glade graduated from Brigham Young University in 1968 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, Industrial Management, and earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering Administration from the University of Utah in 1970. After graduation, Glade accepted a job in the management training program with General Electric as an engineer; the job moved him between work assignments to Erie, Pennsylvania, then Wilmington, North Carolina and later San Jose, California. In June 1973, Glade accepted a job in Utah to move his young family, with three children under 5 years old, closer to Carolyn’s and his parents, and settled in the Cottonwood Heights area. Over his career, Glade spent time in various roles involving computer science, programming, management, finance and operations. Glade was very entrepreneurial, and for several years owned and operated a successful computer store in Bountiful Utah. Glade had a fantastic mind that was always in learning mode, and enjoyed organizing and growing businesses. He had a gift with computers, and for years enjoyed developing software programs for companies across the nation. Having honed his skills early in life as a contractor in college, Glade was a talented craftsman and handyman who could repair, install and build just about anything. He spent many weeks over the years helping his children on significant home-improvement projects. Carolyn and Glade were blessed with four wonderful children, Darin, Kim, Kami and Nicole, who loved and adored their father. Glade was patient and kind with his children and did his best to instill in his children the ideas of faith, charity, kindness and an appreciation for travel and learning. Glade loved his wife, Carolyn; they were an inseparable pair and were rarely far from each other. Other than spending time with their children and grandchildren, and providing church service, Glade and Carolyn loved nothing more than traveling together. Their journeys took them to over 50 countries over the many years. Glade and Carolyn visited Oklahoma this past summer, completing his desire to visit all 50 United States. A life-long member of the LDS Church, Glade had an abiding love of and faith in his Savior. In 2011 Glade and Carolyn served an 18-month mission for the Church in Nice, France, teaching and serving young adults. Glade took great comfort in the principles of the gospel, and knowing that he would be with his family again. Glade was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Dr. Kenneth I. Perry, older sister Betty LaDawn Perry Rawlings and his brother-in-law Monte D. Stevenson. Glade is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Darin (Robin), Kim Christensen (Randy), Kami Galbraith (Dave), Nicole Reese (Gavin), 19 grandchildren and his brother-in-law Darwin Stevenson (Gaye). Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019. A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. at the South Jordan Utah River Ridge 7th Ward building, 10124 S. 1300 West, South Jordan, UT 84095. Interment will follow the service at the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121.
