Jennie Paez Smith

–

Salt Lake City, UT

Grandma “B”
Our beautiful mom was born 2/21/26 in Fort Morgan, CO to Juan Bautista Paez and Enidina Gutierrez Paez. Her family moved to Utah and settled in South Salt Lake where the whole family farmed. Mom was 1 of 9 sisters and 2 brothers.
She received her education in what is now called Granite School District where she first met our dad, Wally Bowden. They later married when Wally returned from World War II on 12/7/46. They produced two children, Elaine and Chico. They made their home in So. Salt Lake. Jennie was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took an active role in her son’s little league baseball team. She worked outside the home full-time all her life. She excelled in home décor and flower arranging was her specialty. Everyone in the family had her art hanging on their walls.
Wally died in 1979. Mom remained alone for many years until she met Michael Smith. They married and spent the next six years as snow birds in Arizona and here at home for fall and summer and family gatherings.
Our mother raised us with strong family values and we were always at barbeques. At the ripe old age of 83 mom and her sisters were still having sleepovers. They would gather at one home in their PJ’s laughing, eating and telling stories until the wee hours of the morning.
Mom was always thrilled to go to Bear Lake with the family. She said it reminded her of the farm in So. Salt Lake.
Mom loved to dance and had the most beautiful singing voice ever. Our mother was a breath-taking woman, she was absolutely beautiful. Every woman turned to look at her and she turned every man’s head.
It is with great regret and sorrow that she leaves behind her daughter Elaine Garner (Nick), son Wallace Scott “Chico” (Darla) Bowden, grandchildren Chic, Theresa, Kaz, Ryan, Stephanie (Wig), Troy, Elisha and Cody, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and one on the way. She also leaves behind sister Lily Young, brother Simon (Polly) Paez, sister Angela (Blaine) Bowden, sister Anita (Chuck) Hoffman, sister Ruth (Keith) Bowcutt, sister Alice (Daryl) Simpson, sister Genevieve (Glen) Nygren, sister Nancy Blair, and brother John (Connie) Paez. Preceded in death by husband Wally Bowden, husband Michael Smith, life long friend Robert Holt, brother Bobby Paez, sister Mary Filson and both parents.
We loved her dearly, she will be missed. Until we meet again mom!
