JoNell Ricks Davis Obituary (1949 - 2017)

JoNell Ricks Davis, age 67, died peacefully on January 24, 2017 at Carrington Court in South Jordan. JoNell was born June 8, 1949, in Rexburg, Idaho, the daughter of Vernon and Laura Ricks. As a child, JoNell loved being at her grandparents farm in Rexburg with her cousins, playing Annie-I-Over, making hollyhock dolls, and riding horses. She loved playing with her siblings and became an MVP shortstop in softball by fielding throws from her older brother Brad. She graduated from Madison High School and was recognized for her talents in debate. Her education continued at Ricks College, Brigham Young University, and University of Utah where she earned a nursing degree, a master's degree in maternal-newborn nursing, and became a certified nurse midwife. During her training, she met Roy Kim Davis and they married in the Idaho Falls Temple. After completing their education, they subsequently moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Tacoma, Washington, Boston, Massachusetts, Silver Springs, Maryland, and finally Murray, Utah. JoNell devoted her time over these years to the nurture of her six children and to reaching out in kindness and love to many others. JoNell served faithfully in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including responsibilities as a children's Primary president, Young Women's president, and Relief Society president. A highlight of her life, she served a mission with her husband in Kiev, Ukraine from 2005-2008. She deeply loved the people of that land and the young missionaries she helped teach and lead. Above all, JoNell will remembered for her feeling heart and her devotion to Jesus Christ. JoNell is survived by her husband, Roy Kim Davis, her children, Kimberly, Neal, Tami, Cyndi, Mindy, and Eric, her nineteen grandchildren, her siblings Brad, David, and Charlotte, as well as many beloved relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Little Cottonwood Stake Center, 6180 S. Glenoaks Street, Murray, Utah. Viewings will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah and on Monday from 9:00-10:30 am at the church.
