Joan Lee Escandon Goddard Carlson

Our beautiful mother, grandmother, and friend returned to our Heavenly Father on June 12, 2016.
Joan was born on July 26, 1932 to Alex and Fern Escandon in Salt Lake City Utah.
Joan graduated from East High School in 1949, spent the summers working at Fish Lake with her dear friends, and attended modeling school in Salt Lake City.
Joan married Harold Goddard Jr. in the fall of 1955 and together they had two sons, Gregg and Kirk. She later married Shelton Wayne "Bud" Carlson in 1967 and were married for forty-five years. Together Joan and Bud loved to travel the world, play golf and cards, sit by the pool, and socialize with family and friends.
Joan worked for the Salt Lake County Recorder's office for forty-four years where she developed many lasting friendships. Joan was kind, loving, and took a genuine interest in the people she met in this life. Her sarcasm, wonderful sense of humor, beautiful smile, and unconditional love will be greatly missed by all.
Joan is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kellie Goddard (Kirk deceased), grandchildren Talysha Goddard Jolley (Jarett), and Braydon Kirk Goddard of Sandy, Utah.
It is truly a happy reunion for Joan as she is preceded in death by her husband Bud Carlson, two sons Gregg and Kirk Goddard, her first husband and friend Harold Goddard Jr, her brother Bill Escandon, her parents Alex and Fern Escandon, as well as many other dear friends and loved ones.
The family would like to thank the staff at Canyon Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care and the hospice team from Comfort WoRx for the love, care, and friendship they provided to Joan during this time.
A viewing will be held from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah 84095. Graveside services and interment will begin at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah 84092.
