John Pickett Wilson Sr. Obituary (1972 - 2017)

John Pickett Wilson, Sr., age 44, of South Jordan, UT passed away the morning of May 4, 2017. John was raised in Cedartown, GA, and was a true southern gentleman. He played football at Cedartown High School and then at Georgia Military College. His love for snowboarding moved him to Golden, CO where he earned his culinary degree and met and married his wife Lana, of Alamosa, CO. John's passion for adventure, hunting and fishing lead them to Billings, MT where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business management from Rocky Mountain College and went on to work in food sales and industrial supply sales. John and Lana's three sons were born during their 14 years living in Billings. From there, work moved them to South Jordan, UT where John and Lana fulfilled a long time dream of owning their own business and purchased a Home Instead Senior Care franchise in Utah County. John was first and foremost a loving husband and father – which was fueled and held firmly together by his faith in the grace and redemption he knew he had through Jesus Christ. A natural leader and life coach, he recognized the intrinsic worth in all people. He had a fun, witty, and bold way of leading that made him a favorite among the kids he coached in football, baseball, and lacrosse, as well as among his friends and fellow coaches. He was passionate about character development and helping others. His motto was to always learn something and do better today than yesterday. John is loved and missed by many, but especially by his wife Lana (Haverfield) Wilson, and their three sons: JP, Sterling, and Graham; his sisters Connie (Martin) Kay of York, PA, and Eulalie "Weezie" (Martin) Green of Birmingham, AL; his parents Donald and Eulalie Wilson of Cedartown, GA; father and mother-in-law Allan and Patti Haverfield; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of John's life will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel in South Jordan, UT on May 9th. Visitation begins at 10am with a service following at 11am.
