Joseph Jerome Vicchrilli Obituary (1922 - 2008)

Sempre Famiglia Lifelong Murray resident Joseph Jerome Vicchrilli passed away peacefully Monday, March 24, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was 85. Joe was born November 10, 1922 to Maria Domenica and Stephan Vicchrilli. He graduated from Murray High School and served in the United States military. He married Louise Gertrude Evelyn Fritzsche on December 27, 1943. Joe worked as a supervisor at Kennecott Copper for 32 years. Upon retirement, he continued in his favorite pastimes – gardening and following sports. He was a fan in particular of the Utah Jazz and BYU Athletics. He served as a volunteer fireman for Murray City, and ditch master for Little Brown Ditch Company. Joseph was the provider and patriarch to 8 children, 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Fritz of 64 years, children Barbara (Jerry Neff); Jim (Kathy); Jolynn (Danny Colledge); David (Sue); George (Rela); Geoff; Chris Carpenter and Marci (Mark Wessman) sisters Jane Jeppson, Adeline Pelletier, Julie (Del) Markham, Mary Stauffer, and brother Sam (Vi). He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Tony, Mike and Frank. Joe’s viewing is Sunday, March 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St., Murray. Funeral service is Monday, March 31 at noon (with a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m.) at the same location. Interment is at the Murray City Cemetery.
