Joyce Pauline Severson Sawaya Obituary (1931 - 2014)

Jan 27, 1931 – Aug 31, 2014 Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members who loved her dearly on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Born on January 27, 1931 to Harvey Eugene and Pauline Sarah Severson in Murray, Utah. She attended Murray High School and graduated from Jordan High School. Joyce married James S. Sawaya on December 1, 1956, and enjoyed nearly 60 years of companionship and marriage. Through those years they golfed, bowled, traveled, and laughed often. Always ready for a great party and a good meal, they shared special times with "the gang" and family. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish for 57 years. She was a member of the Salt Lake Assistance League and loved golfing at Alpine Country Club where she treasured her many friendships. She is survived by her husband Jim; children, Beverly Simpson, Keith (Becky), Paul (Marla), Judith (Lance) Sampson, Annette (Steve) Chaus, Jim Jr. (Cathy), and Carol (John) Calacino; Brothers Ray (Donna), Richard (Carolyn); Sister, Betty Hawkes, 25 devoted grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. Viewing on Friday September 5th from 5pm-7pm and Rosary 7pm at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church (1375 East Spring Lane) and also on Saturday September 6th, prior to the service, from 10am to 10:45am at the church. A funeral Mass at 11 am with interment at Murray Cemetery.
