Judy Kay McLaughlin Ahue Obituary (1943 - 2016)

1943 ~ 2016 Judy Kay McLaughlin Ahue, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, suddenly returned to be with her cherished father, mother, grandparents and Heavenly Father early in the morning on Friday, September 16, 2016, as a result of complications from a recent surgery. Judy was born on November 26, 1943 to Gene L. and Norma E. (Pedersen) McLaughlin in Union, Utah. Judy's parents later moved to Murray, Utah where she grew up and graduated from Murray High School in 1962 with nearly straight A's. Judy married Steven K. Sanders on December 22, 1961. She had four sons and a daughter with Steven before their divorce in 1978-79. Judy later married her husband Charles on March 28, 1981, and he was her constant companion until her passing. Judy was an amazingly loving mother to her five children. She gladly sacrificed much of her life to raising them and providing them with a loving home. She learned as a young mother how to cook, can, and bake in order to provide the best she could with the means she had. Whenever she put on a family gathering, she put her heart and soul into the food she prepared out of love for her family. Judy taught her children love, respect, honesty, perseverance and integrity. She encouraged them to strive to always improve themselves and to be tolerant of others. Even when she faced challenges in life her children always knew that they were loved. Judy loved to learn new things and to stretch her mind. She read voraciously. She learned to knit, crochet, sew, and do other handwork. She loved making things for the ones she loved; from sweaters to hats to costumes to toys. There was almost nothing she took on that she couldn't do and do with the skill of a professional. She had a very artistic eye and loved to create. Judy was extremely intelligent. In her early 40's she went back to school and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Weber State University Nursing school with straight A's, while holding down a full time job and with teenagers still at home. Once she graduated, she found her calling in hospice and elder care. She was highly respected by the doctors and other medical professionals that she worked with for her amazing medical skills, her commitment to high quality care and her compassion. She was loved by her patients for her tenderness and knowledge - touching so many lives including those of her patient's families. Judy truly loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She and her husband Charles enjoyed having the grandkids over for sleepovers, swim parties and movie nights at their home in Draper. There was always something to explore, play or do at Grandma and Grandpa's house and always something yummy to eat. Her talent, her knowledge, her presence and her love will be missed beyond comprehension. We love you and miss you mom and wish you peace. Judy is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughter, Stacia (Dale) Hammond; and her four sons: Spencer (Janet) Sanders, Darrin (Ruthann) Sanders, Kirk (Julie) Sanders, and Chet (Jennifer) Sanders. She is also survived by her brothers, Craig (Linda) McLaughlin and Kent (Carol) McLaughlin; and twenty-five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene L. McLaughlin and mother, Norma E. Pedersen McLaughlin. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah. Family may gather from 12:00-12:45 p.m. before the service. A viewing will be held the night before, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the same location.
