L. Earl Sperry Obituary (1929 - 2008)

L. Earl Sperry, age 78, died on Sunday, January 13, 2008 in Salt Lake City of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born June 17, 1929 in Nephi, Utah to Louis Lode and Norma Sparks Sperry. He married Judith Anne Peterson on January 14, 1950. Their marriage was solemnized on February 19, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple. Earl loved baseball, walks and long drives, but his passions were his family, the gospel, music and a good round of golf. He worked hard as an accountant for over 40 years. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in many capacities, including Bishop, High Council member and counselor in a Stake Presidency. He loved being an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple where he served for nearly ten years. A man of honor, integrity, and unfailing wit, Earl kept his sense of humor and character throughout his trial. He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Leslie (Michael) Heath, Linda (Jim) Matern, and Jana (Richard) Rowbotham; five grandchildren, Monica, Kristin, Brian, Kaitlyn, and David; one great-grandchild, Hunter; brother, Karl Sperry; and sister, Norma (Gordon) Peterson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln Heights Ward, 601 East Mansfield Ave. (3117 South) in South Salt Lake. Friends and family may call Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., and Thursday 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, 7800 So. 3115 E.
