Lawrence Henry Goldman Obituary (1952 - 2018)

Lawrence Henry Goldman passed away on February 2, 2018 at the age of 65. He was born December 10, 1952 to Muriel Nadel Goldman Atkins and Melvin Goldman, in Amityville, Long Island, New York. He lived and grew up in Queens, New York. His fondest memories were in the Glen Oaks area of Queens. He married Rita Dian Blonquist of Salt Lake City, Utah, in Salt Lake City on July 9, 1975. They lived in Flushing, New York for 18 months and then returned to Utah where they raised their family. They had three children: Stacy, Jennifer, and Dustin. Larry leaves a legacy of 12 grandchildren. Larry loved his family. He loved attending sporting events and activities for his children and grandchildren. Larry also coached his children in soccer. In his early married life, he loved to play softball in any league he could find, even if it was with the Mormons. Larry would talk to anyone at any time developing many friendships and leaving many lasting impressions. When Larry moved from New York to Utah he started in the dairy business where he spent the next 33 years. Most of his career was spent with Cream O’ Weber Dairy where he started in the processing plant and worked his way up to sales and promotions. He spent many Saturdays with his children at promotion events handing out milk samples and scooping ice cream. Larry’s claim to fame in the dairy business was helping to develop the famous “Chug” milk bottle, giving him the name “Chug Head.” Larry had a passion for art, his specialty included Plexiglas, masking tape and spray paint. As a young adult, Larry discovered his artistic talent when he created his first masterpiece on the wall of his first apartment. It is no surprise that it depicted one of the many bridges in New York City. It was lucky for him that his spray paint talent was contained to his apartment wall, and later Plexiglas, rather than on the side of a subway train. Larry was interested in anything non-fiction, such as history, especially World War 2, documentaries, and current events. He never missed an episode of 60 Minutes. He did not have any dislikes when it came to food and was often found eating Frito Scoops, Cheez-Its, and pretzels, and his grandchildren could always count on the cookie jar being filled with Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies. Larry loved all sports. Even though he grew up in the “shadows of the Mets’ Shea Stadium,” he was a Yankee fan through and through, especially if they were still playing in October. Survivors include his wife Dian; his children, Stacy (Jaron) Johnson; Jennifer (Jason) Hansen; and Dustin (Cami) Goldman. His grandchildren, Jason Antares, Brecon Johnson, Brooklyn Johnson, Kennedy Ackerman, Aliyah Johnson, Statten Ackerman, Micah Johnson, Miles Goldman, Corinne Goldman, Teagan Hansen, Kai Goldman, and dog Jolie. His siblings; Jeri Brams, Ron Goldman, and his twin sister Linda Samarel. He was preceded in death by his mother Murial Atkins, his father Mel Goldman, and his granddaughter Myah Johnson. Funeral services will be held Thursday February 8, 2018 at 11:00AM in the River Oaks 3rd Ward, 8825 South 1095 West, West Jordan Utah. A viewing will be held on Wednesday February 7, 2018 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan, Utah; and Thursday February 8, 2018 from 10:00AM to 10:45AM at the River Oaks 3rd Ward. Following the services, Larry will be interred at the Coalville City Cemetery.
