Lawrence (Larry) Timothy Dowd Obituary (1924 - 2007)

Oh! I’ve Slipped The surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies On laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, And joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split-clouds And done hundred things You have not dreamed of-wheeled And soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. He was born December 25, 1924 in New Haven, CT. to John Francis and Eleanor Synder Dowd. He loved flying, served his country in the armed services during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retired as an Air Traffic Controller. Larry lives on in the memory of his loving wife Diane Pickering Dowd, his children Pamela Dowd-Metzger (Mark), Lawrence T. Dowd II, John C. Dowd, and his grandchildren; Lawrence T. III, Bryan and Andrew Dowd, Paul and Luke Metzger, and Alex Dowd. He is survived by sisters Mary LeManguais, Virginia Fortney, Ann Lawrence and brother Fred Dowd. He was preceded by his parents, brother John and sister Eleanor. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 26 at 11 am at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church 1375 East Spring Lane (5050 South), Murray. Friends and family may visit from 6 to 7 pm Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul followed by a Vigil. Committal: Murray City Cemetery. Family would like to thank the St. Vincent de Paul Parishioners, Sister Bernadette, and Rocky Mountain Hospice, for their prayers and support. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sr. Angela’s Assistance Program at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
