Lewis Daryl Yates Obituary (1937 - 2011)

Lewis Daryl Yates passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Park City on April 7, 1937 to William Lyman and Stella Merle Lewis Yates. Daryl began working in the construction industry at a young age and went on to become a superintendent, managing several large projects in various locations across the country throughout his long career. He was always busy both working and playing. He had varied hobbies and interests including; fishing, boating, snowmobiling, flying, golf, woodworking, 4-wheeling, reading and many more. The thing he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his family. He loved serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and because of his unwavering testimony his willing hands were used in many leadership callings. He served happily and faithfully wherever he was called and especially enjoyed working with the youth and in the temple. He left a legacy of hard work, integrity, faith, love, compassion and diligent service. Daryl is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marydon Stratton; seven of his children, Larry Turnbaugh (Helen), Kary (Cindy), Lori Heaton (Ingo), Todd (MeChell), Jill Rindlisbacher (Lynn), Kris (Kristine) and Jacy Thompson (Matt); 32 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin; son, Cody; and daughter, Mari. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, at 11:30 am at the South Jordan Stake Center, 2450 W. 10400 S. A viewing will be held Sunday, May 1, from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy (10600 S.) and on Monday from 10-11 am at the Stake Center prior to services.
