Lewis Henry Ingalsbe Obituary (1916 - 2012)

“The Kindest Man I Ever Knew”“Your father is the nicest man I ever met.” is what we heard most often from others about our Dad and we agreed wholeheartedly with them. He loved to work and served humbly and cheerfully helping whoever and where ever needed.Lewis was born in Wamego, Kansas on 13 June 1916 to Anna and Charles Ingalsbe and grew up there with his sisters and brothers. He graduated from Wamego High School during the depths of the depression. He then rode the rails working where he could and sending money home to help support his family. He was able to save enough money to attend Perry Technical School in Yakima, Washington and graduate as a welder. He worked in the Portland, Oregon shipyards building WWII Naval Defense Vessels and later served in the Army in the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged in Washington State where he met and married Dorothy Maxfield, and they raised their three daughters. He joined the LDS Church there and later with his wife served a devoted and productive mission in Arizona to the Native Americans. He spent his final ten years of life in Utah where he died 20 January 2012.He is survived by his daughters Karen (Duff) Greenwell and Cassie McElroy; his grandchildren Jordan (Sherry) Greenwell, April (Dan) Fenn, Allen (Sara) Greenwell, and David (Kaitlyn) Greenwell, Jemmy McElroy, Ian McElroy and Heather McElroy; his great-grandchildren Abby, Hailey, Anna and Alli Greenwell; his sister Ella Marie Dixon; and his brothers Charles K. and Clyde (Nan) Ingalsbe.He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorthy Maxfield Ingalsbe, daughter Terry Ingalsbe and sister Frances Anderson.We express our gratitude for the kind and caring attention given our father from the staff and custodians at the Legacy Village Memory Care Center.A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, 25 January 2012, at 5:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, where family and friends may gather for a viewing from 4:00-4:45 p.m. Burial in Sunset Memorial gardens in Richland, WA.
