Lynn Allen Nelsen Obituary (1928 - 2019)

Lynn Allen Nelsen passed away on December 7, 2019, in Murray, UT at the age of 91. He died from natural causes surrounded by his loving family. Lynn was born in Murray, UT on November 28, 1928, the son of Mervin Alfie Nelsen and Eairmenta Hall. Lynn was a quiet giant of a man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Lynn had many passions in life, but none greater than spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions and serving a Texas Louisiana mission. Lynn worked for the LDS church’s printing facilities. He used to joke that the Book of Mormon was responsible for his testimony and his bad back. Lynn was a very skilled craftsman and could fix about anything. He had tools for any purpose, some of which were passed down by his father Mervin whom he learned from. With the help of his brother and father, Lynn built his first home in Murray, where he and Anne-Lise raised their 3 children. They lived there for many years before moving a few blocks away in Murray due to the neighborhood becoming more commercialized. The house that Lynn built was so well made that it now serves as a beautiful hair salon. Lynn loved Murray, Utah and lived his entire life there. He had many wonderful stories he could tell about the days when Murray was a more simple and rural place to live. Lynn’s roots date back to some of the original settlers of Murray. He used to say that our family owned places here and there and was proud of that. Lynn loved the beauty of Utah, and we spent many years camping. Because he was such a skilled craftsman, he and his brother Glen built their own campers for their trucks. The camper was so well built that it lasted many years, after which he sold it to a neighbor who used it for many more. Following retirement, Lynn and Anne-Lise also traveled with his brother-in-law Bent and wife Gayle in many parts of the eastern United States. During these trips they were able to visit many American historical places and Church historical places. They loved these trips and looked forward to each one. They had many funny stories to share and great memories. Dad grew up in the era of the depression and World War II, so he knew the value of making things last and always being prepared. He taught those values to his children and grandchildren. Lynn would say when you earn money, you first pay your tithing, then yourself no matter how small, and then budget the rest staying within your means. It was always common-sense wisdom he shared. He was always a source of guidance to his family and the first to help those in need. He was greatly loved and admired by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. We love you beyond words, Dad, knowing we all will be together again someday. Lynn is survived by his beautiful wife, Anne-Lise Nelsen; brother, Glen Nelsen Sr.; daughter, LeeAnne Christiansen; son, Lowell (Sherry) Nelsen; daughter-in-law, Linda Nelsen; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, Mervin Nelsen Jr.; son, Loren Nelsen; son-in-law, Joel Christiansen; and son-in-law, Kerry Snarr. A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 14, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the Germania Ward (464 Germania Avenue, Murray) followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery.
