Margot Martha (Davis) Taborowski Obituary (1926 - 2020)

Our beloved mother and grandmother Margot Martha (Davis) Taborowski passed away February 25, 2020 from complications due to old age. Mom was born October 8, 1926 in Berlin, Germany where she grew up a firsthand witness to the rise and fall of Nazi Germany, and center stage to World War II. Her father was a taxi driver, but during the war he was a staff driver for the General in charge of Berlin Security. This General was later executed for being part of the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler. Just one of the stories we grew up with. Our dad, Robert E. Davis, was an American GI who landed in France just 3 days before the Battle of the Bulge. His unit fought all the way to Berlin where he was part of the Occupation Forces after the war and this is where our Mom and Dad met. After he shipped home, and with a ton of paperwork, he was able to bring Mom to her new life, her new extended welcoming and nurturing Davis family, and new life in America in June 1947. She became a US citizen in 1953. Mom and Pop had 5 kids together and were married for 27 years. They remained good friends and attended many family functions together even after they had gone their separate ways. Growing up with Mom had its rewards and challenges. We always had the cleanest house on the block (not easy with 5 kids), lots of home cooked meals (but don’t be late), and enamas. However, Christmas was always special with lots of German chocolate, pastries, and holiday meals. Mom was always hard working, at home and taking on extra jobs to help support the family; and she supported herself when she went on her own. She retired from US Bank and settled in Tucson, Arizona to be near her sister, Ursula Brown. In 2002, she met and married Henry “Ski” Taborowski. He proved to be a wonderful provider, companion, and stepdad for 17 great years before his passing in 2018. Margot is survived by 4 children: Dennis (Maryann), Dixie, Jim, and Dan (Clifta), 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Martha Axt, her sister Ursula, brother Gunther, her daughter Joan, and son-in-law Mark. A short graveside service and interment of her ashes is being planned for a later date, and will be at Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah. More details will be forthcoming. The family wants to thank everyone for their condolences and well wishes. We are comforted that she is no longer in pain and is now reunited with many family and friends.
