Maryon Josephine Cook Meyer Obituary (1917 - 2009)

Maryon, 91, passed away peacefully at her home March 7, 2009. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born Dec. 16, 1917 in Corrine, Utah to Joseph and Julia Nelson Cook. The family moved to Brigham City in 1928. She attended Box Elder High School, graduating in 1935. She then attended and graduated from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, and began her working life employed by Quality Press, in Salt Lake City. She married Edward Meyer in 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada. While working as a secretary at American Funds and Trusts, Inc, she studied to become a Registered Representative in the Securities business. Maryon was one of the first five female Registered Representatives in Utah. Due to macular degeneration, Maryon cut back on her work as a stock broker, and accepted an Administrative Secretarial position with Utah Social Services, Division of Family Services. In July, 1978 Maryon was elected “Woman of the Year” by the American Business Women’s Association. She retired from Utah Social Services in 1983, but continued to work as a Registered Representative of American Funds & Trusts. She was a hard worker, and taught her family the importance of making goals, planning and never giving up. She is survived by Vicki Todd, daughter, Edward Joseph Meyer, son, Ted Bazarnik, son-in-law. She leaves 4 grand children and 5 great grand children. Preceded in death by daughter, Jo Ellen Bazarnik, 1 granddaughter, 3 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy (10600 So.) where friends may call Tuesday one hour prior to service.
