Maurice Jan Nelson Obituary (1930 - 2007)

Maurice Jan Nelson – loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on January 22, 2007 in Salt Lake City after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. Maurice was born October 11, 1930 in Provo, Utah to Sterling Tanner and Katherine Aime Nelson. He attended Cedar City High school and graduated from Utah State University. He married Eleanor D. Clegg and later divorced. Maurice was in the United States Army and served Honorably. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant while serving as a Military Intelligence analyst at Kelly Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany. He retired from the State of Utah as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. He loved animals and loved playing with the family dogs. As a military historian, he enjoyed reading and spent many hours strategizing operations challenging today’s military. Maurice was a very kind and giving person who would have given the shirt off his back to a total stranger. Maurice is survived by his two children, Mike (Lynette) Nelson and Eleanor (Mark) Miltenberger; four grandchildren, Ericka (Tom) Rowland, Matt, Nicole and Michael; and one great-granddaughter, Jocelyn.
