Maxine Nunley Obituary (1938 - 2008)

“Together Again” Delores “Maxine” Laughlin Nunley, 70, was one of the sweetest ladies to ever grace this earth. She joined her beloved husband, daughter and dear family, Friday, September 12, 2008 following a short illness. Maxine was born in Denver, Colorado on February 9, 1938 to Maxwell Ford and Helen Leone Abbott Laughlin. She was the eldest of two daughters. She grew up in Colorado, Montana and Utah. She married the love of her life and her best friend, Allen Dean Nunley in Salt Lake City on July 11, 1953. Four children were born to this union; Larry Allen, Kenny James, Laura Anne and Kathryn Joyce. Together they buried their daughter, Laura in 1982. Maxine and Allen spent many happy years together before his death in 2001. Maxine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served for many years as a primary teacher and visiting teacher. Maxine enjoyed her prize winning roses, music, her cats and sci-fi movies. Maxine was an avid bowler, and won many trophies over the years. She loved traveling to Las Vegas and San Diego, going to car shows, and to yard sales. She loved spending time with her dear friend, Carolyn. Most of all she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Maxine is survived by her children: Larry (Lisa Czarnik), Kenny and Kathryn, a daugher who dedicated seven years to the mother she loves so much; her grandchildren Gary (Emily Moody) Nunley, Nicholas (Sharon Sorensen) Nunley, Holly Nunley, Oliver Nunley; and a great grandson Nathan Nunley, with two more great grandsons being born early next year. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Lance of San Diego, California; sister-in-law, Kaye Mower of St. George, Utah; cousins, Glen and Teri Morris of Wales, Utah; and many other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Laura, sister Anna Louise Laughlin Lance and brother-in-law Mike Mower. Funeral services will held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 12:00 noon at Riverside 3rd Ward, 5200 South 700 West, with a viewing on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Redwood Memorial Estates. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mark’s Hospital for their kind and tender care of their mother and grandmother.
