Melvin J. Marshall Obituary (1919 - 2010)

“They are Dancing in Heaven Today” Melvin John Marshall, 90, passed away March 6, 2010 after a short illness. Mel was born October 10, 1919 to John M and Verna J Marshall in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Cleo G Hofheins Bodtcher on September 27, 1947. Married was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom preceded him in death on May 16, 2005. Mel was a member of the Army Air Corps, and served during WWII as a Master Sergeant. He circled the globe during that time with stops in Africa, India and China. He was a lifelong Teamster with Local 222, working for both Cloverleaf Dairy and Meadow Gold Dairy, retiring after 35 years. He continued in the retired Teamsters Association (once serving as President of that Association) until shortly before his death. After retirement, traveled extensively with his wife on many trips and cruises and an epic tour of Europe. They walked thousands of miles and danced many nights away together. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Erma Kelley, Verna Kohler, Marilyn Grimm, and brother Ralph. Survived by four sons, Allen S Bodtcher, Ronald A Marshall (Nancy), Terry W. Marshall (Shirley), and John R Marshall, 11 grandchildren, and 19.9 great grand children. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Lincoln Heights Ward (601 East Mansfield, Salt Lake City, Utah) at 12:00 noon. Friends may call on the family Wednesday March 10, 2010, from 6-8 pm at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S State Street, Murray, Utah) or from 11-11:45 at the church. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery immediately after the funeral. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to our friends at Applegate Homecare and Hospice and Arbor Care services. While flowers are nice and will be appreciated, the family suggests you spend that money in a night of dancing with your spouse or significant other!
