Morrell S. Griggs Obituary (1929 - 2015)

"Rell" Murray, UT—Rell was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away November 2, 2015. He was born August 8, 1929 in Payson, Utah to Henry Edwin Griggs and Ethel Collett Griggs. He married Loretta Jean Penka in 1950. Rell graduated from West High School in 1947 and then served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant as part of the machine gun detail during the Korean War where he was decorated with a Bronze Star. Morrell and Loretta had five children: Lorrell (Lyle) Burton, Lorene (Hal) Erickson, Darrell (Anet) Griggs, Douglas (Donna) Griggs and Darrin Albert Griggs (deceased). Rell loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He loved hunting deer in the family campground (Palmyra) Spanish Fork Canyon, and especially the Bookcliffs, with his sons and brothers for many years. He worked for Mountain Bell for 32 years and retired in 1985. Rell is survived by his wife, Loretta; 4 of his children; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Deal and Ted. Preceded in death by his parents; 1 son; 1 granddaughter; and 1 great-grandson; brothers, Harley, Russ, LaMar; and 1 sister, Ladene Smardan. The family would like to thank Symbii Hospice—especially Janet Lance and Jaderli. Thank you also to the many nurses that gave Rell such wonderful care during his long illness. Graveside services will be Friday, November 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah.
