Newel Hodges Linford

“Sweetheart”Newel Hodges Linford, Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep December 13, 2011. Born February 10, 1924, in Ogden, UT to James Franklin and Leonora Hodges Linford. Spent his childhood in Star Valley, WY. Married Barbara Johnson on September 2, 1942 in the Logan Temple. Sweethearts for 69 years. Newel was a Pilot of a B-25 Bomber in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a partner in Linford Bros. Glass Co., President of the Utah Safety Council, President of the Utah Sub Contractors Assoc. and Chairman of the Board for Guardian State Bank. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Elders Quorum Pres., High Priest Group Leader, Bishop (8 yrs), High Councilor, Counselor in two Stake Presidencies and Patriarch.Survived by his wife Barbara, daughters; Barbara Jeanne (Michael) Alford, Louise (Jim) Padgett, Nora (Joe) Anderson, Patti (Bob) Cusick, Marilyn (Duane) Smith, Cathy (Nev) Linford, one son; John (Becky) Linford, brother; Dale H. (Kit) Linford, numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by grandson Kent Smith, Son-in-law, Mike Graham and seven brothers.Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., LDS Country Crossing 10th Ward, 2750 West 11800 South. Viewing Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. So. Jordan Pkwy, (10600 So.) So. Jordan, UT and on Friday from 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment South Jordan City Cemetery.
