Newell Jay Judkins Obituary (1943 - 2007)

Newell Jay Judkins, age 64, passed away August 31, 2007. Jay was born April 8, 1943 in Murray, Utah, a son of Newell E. Judkins and Myreta M. Judkins. Jay graduated from Murray High School in 1961. He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later received his Masters Degree from USC. Jay was an excellent engineer and received many awards from TRW whom he worked for in Redondo Beach, California. He loved his work, which was his passion and enjoyed the people that he worked with at TRW. Jay loved baseball and basketball. One of his most favorite trips was the one he took with his brother to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. He was an avid reader and was always reading some type of science fiction book. He also liked to ride his bike along the ocean with his work buddies. He enjoyed all types of music and had an enormous collection. His love for corvettes was endless. He owned many and loved to drive each one of them. He felt that education was very important and he was very proud of the U. of U. When Jay retired from TRW, he moved to Boise, Idaho to be near his family. He enjoyed riding along the greenbelt, yet the river was not like the ocean. Jay was a private man who was honest, trustworthy, and never spoke badly of anyone. We strive to be like him. Jay had three dogs in his life time and each was named Niki. He loved the dogs and each was very important. The last Niki he left to Austin Fehlman, age 5, a great nephew. Jay was married to Judy Jones, and they later divorced. Jay is survived by his mother, Myreta M. Judkins, his brother Jerrold, and his wife Melba Judkins, of Boise Idaho; his sister Julee and her husband, David Hicks of Bellevue, Nebraska; nieces and nephews: numerous cousins and Aunts and Uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents. Jay, we will miss you, however we will see you again. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Murray, Utah. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2007 at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Interment at the Murray City Cemetery.
