Patricia Ann Evans Weighall Obituary (1947 - 2017)

Patti was a beacon of love. Soft and gentle, warm and joyful, faithful and kind, steadfast and immoveable in her devotion to family, friends, and her Savior. She cultivated a life of selfless service which blossomed into a legacy of sunshine. She longed to be where the sun shined its brightest, often in the mountains, rivers, lakes and streams; or simply in the back-yard basking in the warmth of the sun, playing with her grandchildren. Her touch was better than any band-aid, healing countless scrapes and bruises. Her hands were strong enough to calm a restless child, gentle enough to carry a babybird to safety, and ever ready to do the work which was set before her. Encircled by her children and the love of her life, Patti returned home to her Father in Heaven suddenly on May 4, 2017 due to complications following a stroke. Born to Robert Leonard Evans and Norma Jane Hardy on May 15, 1947, she was 69 years young. Patti grew up in Granger, UT and was a proud graduate of the Class of '65 from Granger High School where she served as senior class secretary, was voted Most Friendly, and awarded as a Sterling Scholar in Art. On October 28th, 1965, she married Steven J. Gibbs, with whom she had seven children. She loved taking her family every year to camp and fish on the Madison River in Montana. She instilled in them a love of hiking, fishing, and all things outdoors. Faith in Jesus Christ flowed through Patti. She lived by her heart and trusted in the Lord. She did what He wanted her to do and went where He wanted her to go. This brought her to the side of many people in need, whether through the 12-Step Addiction Program, at the State Prison, or by the side of those she cared for as a hospice nurse. Her natural gift was in seeing people as the Savior would see them and projecting His light and love into their lives. She was a disciple of Jesus Christ, faithful and true in every circumstance of life. She married the love of her life, Steven L. Weighall on January 16th 2016. Theirs was an adventure beyond compare. They were perfectly matched and evenly yoked in every way. They made their home in Kennewick WA and planned to serve a mission together in the fall of 2018. Master gingerbread house designer and fisher-woman. Expert child wrangler and storyteller. Courageous wife and mother. She softened our edges, filled our lives, carried our burdens, lifted our hearts, and held us through the night. Patti is survived by her siblings, Janet (Jim) Witherspoon, Leonard (Holli) Evans, and David (Jamie) Evans; her 11 children, Mary (Jeremy) Whitehouse, Robert (LoriAnn) Gibbs, Lucy Lance, Sue (Matt) Cragun, Jimmy (Mandy) Gibbs, Stephanie (Ben) Hughes, Amy Gibbs, Annie (Matt) Valentine, Matthew (Tiffny) Weighall, Molly (Allan) Neal, and Luke Weighall. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents. Viewings will be held on Thursday, May 11th from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy. (10600 S) and from 10-10:45 at the church on Friday. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 12th at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 10168 South 1100 West South Jordan, Utah.
