Obituary for Penny Christine Dixon

On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, Penny Christine Dixon, loving wife and mother of five children, and “Ahma” to 11 grandchildren passed away at the age of 66 in Denver, Colorado after battling a rare form of cancer. She was the youngest of four children and raised in the Murray, Utah area.

Penny was born May 30, 1952 in Murray, UT to Delbert and Edith Maxine (Goulding) Adamson. She graduated Murray High School in 1970, and worked for many years as a legal secretary; most notably for Herschel Bullen, Attorney at Law and for the Murray City Prosecutor’s Office. She had an innate talent, and was extremely passionate, for learning “the law”. On February 12, 1971 she married Wayne Alan Dixon and was later sealed for time and all eternity on March 21, 1981. They were madly in love for 50 years and together they built a wonderful life, raising one daughter, Angela, and four sons, Eric, Camron, Alex, and Sean.

Penny had many passions in life, including a love of music, animals, camping/hunting, and interior design. She had an angelic voice and was an accomplished pianist and organist. As part of her high school experience, she was honored and proud to be a Murray High Madrigal and to sing in the Acapella Choir at only a Junior; but most of all, she loved singing with her Sister and Mother. Penny had a love of horses throughout her life. As a young woman she was a fantastic equestrian rider, and even when she wasn’t riding, she found joy in the care and maintenance of the stable horses.

Penny was a beautiful woman inside and out. Whether you were a friend, a family member, or a complete stranger she had a warmth about her that would just draw you in. She took pride in creating a warm and welcoming home and was the first to open it up to anyone in need. She had the gift of gab, a great sense of humor, and was accepting of all people. You could just be who you are around Penny. She was the life of the party and her contagious laughter could be distinguished from all others across the loudest of rooms.

Above all else, Penny loved her family, ALL of her family. She loved traveling around Utah, and neighboring states, camping and spending time with her large extended family. If anyone in her family was ever in need, she truly wanted to do anything she could to help. In a crisis, she would drop everything to offer her loving hand. Not from a sense of obligation, but from a desire to help anyway she could. Penny especially had a deep abiding love for her children and grandchildren. She was a defender and protector of them, and never backed down from a fight on their behalf. At the end of her life, she was still fighting for them, and she fought to her last breath.

Penny is preceded in death by her Mother, Maxine, and Father, Delbert Adamson.

Penny is survived by her husband, Alan Dixon; her siblings, James Adamson (Caroline), Sandra Wilkinson (Russel), and Scott Adamson (Vicky); her children, Angela Benassi (Jason), Eric Dixon (Mary), Camron Dixon (Elena), Alex Dixon (Juliana), and Sean Dixon (Mackenzie); and her grandchildren, Trevor Benassi, Ethan Benassi (Ashlee Davis), Connor Benassi, Vincent Benassi, Gracelyn Dixon, Colin Dixon, Nathaniel Lovato, Cameron Lovato, Bently Dixon, Brooklyn Dixon, Blake Dixon, Paizley Dixon, Jameson Dixon; Great Grandchildren, Jaydenn and Aspenn Davis; and her beloved “furry baby” Corky.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 in the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah 84095 at 1:00 p.m. Viewings will be held at the same location Wednesday, November 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary at 1950 E Dimple Dell Road 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092. Dinner will be provided by the 8th and 6th Ward and will be served at the Church House on 1988 West 11400 South.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Benassi, Eric Dixon, Camron Dixon, Alex Dixon, and Sean Dixon

Honorary Pallbearers will be: James Adamson, Scott Adamson, Scott Dixon, Don Dixon, and all of her wonderful grandchildren
