Randall Bryan Packer Obituary (2017 - 2017)

Randy Packer passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Randy was born April 30, 1950, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Jack Alvin and Wilma Barlow Packer. At the age of two, Randy's family moved to Salt Lake City, where he lived an idyllic childhood filled with baseball, paper routes and Saturday matinee movies. Randy graduated from Granite High School and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission. Randy attended the University of Utah for a period before beginning a career with his brother and father in the family business – Packer Glass Company. Randy married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Voorhees on September 1, 1971, in the Salt Lake Temple. Randy loved working with young men, specifically Scouting's Exploring program. He was presented the distinguished Silver Beaver award by the Boy Scouts of America. He served in numerous church callings, including the Jordan River Temple. He was an avid University of Utah fan where he spent countless hours attending and watching games with his family and friends. Randy's greatest legacy was his family. They were everything to him. Randy is survived by his wife, Sharon, his children, Bryan (Amber), Spencer (Amy), Melissa Losser (David), Rebecca Matheson (Troy), and Nathan (Samantha), as well as 17 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Barlow and Blair Packer. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Wilma and his siblings, Sally Bowen and Richard Packer. Randy's family is profoundly thankful to the endless compassionate care given by Dr. Scott Samuelson of Utah Cancer Specialists, and the Bone Marrow Transplant team and Intensive Care Unit at LDS Hospital. A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the South Cottonwood Ward, located at 5605 South Vine Street, Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 12 p.m. at the Murray Utah South Stake, located at 5735 South Fashion Boulevard, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at the same location from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be held at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, located at 3115 Bengal Boulevard, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
