Obituary for Richard Peterson Wadley

1966 - 2015 Richard Peterson Wadley, 49, of Bakersfield, CA, surprised all of us by finishing his mortal journey following a heart attack on October 21, 2015, in Tempe, AZ. In the week since his passing, we have been overwhelmed by the response from those he touched throughout his short life. He was born on September 28, 1966 in Salt Lake City, UT, the first-born son of Margaret Peterson and Jerald Bird Wadley. Richard grew up in Midvale, the older brother to four sisters and one brother. He loved, treasured, protected and, at times, annoyed them like only an older brother can. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1985 where he led the debate team to its first ever state championship. His teammates remember celebrating with Richard as one of the highlights of their high school experience. Richard was also a gifted communicator and was selected to speak at graduation. After attending Brigham Young University, Richard was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auckland, New Zealand from 1986 to 1988. While there, he served as a trainer and district and zone leader, which roles prepared him for future endeavors in life. Richard truly loved the Maori people and their humility was a perfect fit for his kind heart. Arohanui Richard. He spent most of his life's work in the retail industry – no surprise that he would focus his life on service to customers, coworkers and employees. Over the years, he worked with companies that included Golden Corral, Lionel Playworld, Big Lots, CPI Corp., and most recently Family Dollar. Although Richard successfully managed stores, districts and regions, he will be remembered most by those he worked with for having changed the direction of their lives for the better. Richard found the love of his life in California and while his work took him all over the country from Salt Lake City to Albuquerque, from Indianapolis to Chicago, and from San Francisco to San Diego, he could always be found on his cell phone stealing moments with his sweet Nicolet. They were soulmates and meant the world to each other. She filled his life with love and purpose and he did the same for her. Richard is survived by his sweetheart, Nicolet Boucher of Los Angeles, CA and her nephews, Matthieu Anderson and Nicholas Anderson; sister Sharon Lyn Wadley Kime (Rob) of Kennesaw, GA; brother Robert Edward Wadley (Karen) of East Stroudsburg, PA; sister Wendy Carol Wadley Grossarth (Scott) of Herriman, UT; and sister Deborah Jane Wadley Brady (Matt) of Bakersfield, CA. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces who adored him and looked forward to his surprise visits: Elder David Leslie Kime, Nathan Martell Kime, Abigail Elizabeth Kime, Joshua Robert Wadley, Olivia Grace Kime, Caleb Wadley Grossarth, Thomas Eric Kime, Madelyn Kay Grossarth, Hailey Jane Brady, Emily Jayne Grossarth, Adam Jerald Brady, Sophia Margaret Kime, Benson Scott Grossarth, Paxton James Wadley, Jack William Brady, Grace Elizabeth Grossarth, and Mackenzie Lynne Brady. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Elizabeth Wadley, niece Elizabeth Wadley, and his grandparents. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the LDS Midvale Utah East 2nd Ward, 7250 South 300 East in Midvale, UT. Friends may call at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray, UT, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015 and at the ward building in Midvale from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com
