Robert Gary Lippmann Obituary (1940 - 2020)

View Funeral Webcast “Be loving, be kind, be true, stay together, and care for each other” Robert G. Lippmann passed away on 24 June 2020 of cancer. Born 18 November 1940 to Dr. Fred C. Lippmann and Alberta Eha in the German American community of New Ulm, Minnesota. The family, with eldest son Fred Jr. joined the LDS Church in 1950 and after much effort and sacrifice came to Zion and settled in Murray City in 1953. Robert graduated from Murray High School in 1959, graduated from Brigham Young University Cum Laude in 1964, and from the Graduate School of Social Work of the University of Utah in 1966. Robert was a social worker with the State of Utah in various capacities for 36 years. Robert married Merna Alder on 31 July 1964, had six children and divorced in 1985. Robert was a supernumerary with the Utah Opera Company for 14 years, was in over 25 operas, and each opera became a familiar friend. He also enjoyed singing in church choirs over the decades and was a season subscriber to the Utah Opera Company and Ballet West. Robert also enjoyed gardening, travel, photography, and wood working. Robert was active in the LDS Church, serving various ways and had a special interest in church studies and extended family history. He served as the live-in caregiver for his aged mother for her last four-and-a-half years. His circle of concern was larger than what many knew, all races, minorities, and classes. “I love my family more than I can express” Er Lebte ein reserviertes Leben, jedoch voller Milzefϋhl Hoffnug. Robert is survived by his children: John (Sherry), Ann, David D. (Nancy), Paul (Heather), Amy (Casey), Scott (A.C.) and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Fred Jr., and his son David. Special thanks to Robert’s children who cared for him so lovingly during his final days. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 30 June 2020 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah, with viewings on Monday, 29 June from 6:00-8:00 pm and on Tuesday from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
