Rudy Ogrin Obituary (1920 - 2013)

Rudolph Ogrin, age 92, passed away early Saturday surrounded by his family. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920 to Frank and Marian Cadez Ogrin. Rudy was a lifetime resident of Murray and a lover of all sports. As a child he played CYO basketball and baseball, and American Legion baseball. He was one of the founders of the Pony League and Babe Ruth baseball in Murray. Rudy was a beloved coach of Murray Babe Ruth and Murray American Legion baseball for many years. During World War II, Rudy served in the Army and was stationed in Louisiana. He later owned his own repair business in Murray. Before he retired, Rudy worked as an iron worker with the Local 27. Rudy’s love of sports was only exceeded by his love for his family. He married Christina Kelly and together they had one son, Michael (Colleen). He adored his two granddaughters, Christina (Nick) and Kathleen. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marian; wife, Christina Kelly Ogrin; sisters, Mildred Goldman, Josephine Shimatovich and Ann Chufar; and brothers, Frank Ogrin and Max Ogrin. The family would like to thank St. Mark’s Hospital and Dr. Lane Childs for all their care over the years. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 15, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Murray City Cemetery, 5600 Vine Street, with a visitation prior to services from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray.
