Ruth Elsie Mulkay Turner Obituary (1911 - 2014)

Ruth was born to Leslie and Ann Mulkay on July 12, 1911 in Bingham, Utah. After over 102 years of exceptional living, she passed away surrounded by loving family on March 29, 2014 in Salt Lake City. As the daughter of a miner, she had an adventurous childhood. Her family loved listening to stories from her youth. She lived in many places as a child including Pacific Grove, CA. It was there that she met and married her husband, Gerald Emmett Turner, in 1929. They had one son, Gerald Lewis Turner. She graduated from beauty school and had her own beauty salon for many years in Olympia, WA and later in Utah. She was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed her visits from her visiting and home teachers. Ruth worked tirelessly on genealogy and family history. She even traveled to Ireland to find family records and distant relatives. Ruth fell in love with quilting at the age of 60. She created at least one quilt for each member of her family. Ruth made many friends while living at St. Marks Towers in SLC, and greatly enjoyed their friendship. She is survived by her son, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Cynthia; 7 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; sister, Eberle; brother, Lewis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; and her great granddaughter, Brittany. Ruth was tenacious, intelligent and independent. She had an incredible memory and loved her family deeply. Her family feels privileged to have had so many wonderful years to love an amazing Grandma Great!
