Ruth Harris Wood Obituary (1920 - 2006)

Ruth Harris Wood passed away January 29, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born August 6, 1920 to Milton Hyrum Harris and Beatrice Maude Dalton in Parowan, Utah. She married Donald A Wood May 10, 1941 in San Luis Obispo, California. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991. Don died later that same year. Ruth was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from East High School. She attended BYU, where she met and was courted by her sweetheart, Don. They were soon separated during World War II, as Don served overseas in the European campaign. He also served in the Korean War, and Ruth cared for their three small children while residing in Japan. Together Ruth and Don raised five children. The overriding love and joy of her life was the caring for and associating with her family. Ruth was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed her association with the other members of her Camp and loved participating in the genealogy and history lessons. Ruth will be remembered for her kind and thoughtful personality, always looking for the brightest side of every day. Her beautiful smile made everyone feel loved in her presence. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Brent and Diane Wood of Flagstaff, AZ; Mary and Dave Black of Murray, UT; Shirley and Marty Manning of Kaysville, UT; Nancy and Chris Burnard of Gig Harbor, WA; and Karen and Joe Mueller of Meridian, ID; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Riverside 3rd Ward. She had worked as a Sunday School leader, a Young Women’s leader and a visiting teacher. She loved and appreciated the kind leaders and friends in her ward, who faithfully brought the Sacrament to her and cared for her needs as an elderly widow. Funeral services will be held at the Riverside 3rd Ward, 700 W. 5200 So., Monday, February 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Interment Elysian Burial Gardens.
