Sandra Whitlock Obituary (1938 - 2017)

Sandra C. Whitlock passed away peacefully on May 26, 2017. Sandra was born Aug 24, 1938 in Mayfield, Utah to Udell & Ruth Christiansen, the middle of three girls. She grew up in the small town of Mayfield. She graduated from Manti High where she was a cheerleader and made many lifelong friends. She was an excellent pianist and accompanied many choir groups and performed many piano solos. She was known for racing her dad's silver Cadillac down the country roads. She graduated from Snow College and then married Wesley B Whitlock in the Manti Temple on Nov 28, 1958. Sandra was a loving and nurturing mom and she and Wes raised their four children in Granger, Utah. She was very supportive of all her children and grandchildren in all their individual activities. Sandra lived a dedicated life of service and was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she fulfilled many callings. Each Sunday, Sandra could be found playing the organ for sacrament meeting. She accompanied a musical group 'The Friends' for many years. Sandra was the financial secretary at Granger High School where she enjoyed the interaction with staff and students. After retirement, Sandra volunteered as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple for many years until she was not physically able to continue. She worked tirelessly on Genealogy and loved when she discovered a new ancestor. Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Jean. Sandra is survived by her children; Susan (Jordan) Bangerter, Kelly (Jeff) Smith, Roger (Lani), Lisa (Cory) Topham and sister Carol (Errol) Whitlock, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The family expresses deep gratitude for the loving care she received at the Brighton House and the many friends that frequently visited her. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 31st from 6 to 8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan and Thursday morning in the Willow Grove LDS Chapel, 8539 S 2200 W, West Jordan from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
