Seth Iral Mecham Obituary (1978 - 2014)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, best friend and companion, Seth Iral Mecham. Seth passed away from heart failure on November 6, 2014 at his home in Millcreek. Seth was born to Rex Iral and Ilene Austin Mecham on February 17, 1978. Seth was the 3rd son (in less than three years) born to Rex and Ilene and held a special place in their hearts his entire life. He was a big cuddly baby, weighing 9 lb. 9 oz. at his birth with chubby cheeks and hands and weighing 30 pounds at one year. Football coaches noticed him as a baby and one day one of them asked "who is the mother of this one?" Ilene raised her hand and the coach said "I want him on MY football team." Seth was a dear sweet baby and child, a kind-hearted loving boy who was easy to raise and had a loving, giving soul. He had a special relationship with his Dad, Rex, based on mutual love and respect. Seth also loved his Heavenly Father his entire life and often remarked that one of his main goals was "to make you proud someday, mom and dad." Seth's good looks and devilish charm helped him maneuver his way out of any trouble he got into. Seth excelled in soccer, baseball, football, wrestling and scouting. He received the rank of Eagle Scout in 1996, preparing a food drive and Thanksgiving meal for the homeless in downtown Salt Lake for his Eagle Project. He loved to serve mankind, recently providing Christmas gifts for a less fortunate family with money he had received for Christmas. Seth attended schools in South Jordan and graduated from Bingham High School in 1996 where he excelled in Varsity Wrestling, placing 3rd in State. Seth stood up for "the underdog," enjoyed teaching and "debating" friends and family, and he always offered comic relief and entertainment. He had a fervent knowledge of his Savior and pursued a relationship with Him. Seth attended Utah State University, Salt Lake Community College (graduating on the Dean's List) and the U of U, working various jobs to support himself as he pursued an education in Sociology. Seth is survived by his life-long best friend and companion, Britney Stark. Also by his parents, Rex and Ilene Mecham, his brothers, Nathaniel Rex, Anthony Robert (Sarah), David Joseph, and by his sisters, Rachel Ilene Ditto (Jon) and Emily Ann Shaw (Brian). Seth was an amazing Uncle to 16 nieces and nephews who loved and adored him. Many hours were spent playing with Uncle Seth, going to Lagoon and playing games. He was amazing with children and they adored him. He will also be missed by his sweet dog, Eva. A viewing will be held on Monday evening, November 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) South Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the River Ridge Stake Center, 10235 South 1000 West, South Jordan, UT, with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
