Sherrie Pehrson Obituary (1953 - 2013)

On Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the wee hours of the morning, our amazing mother, Sherrie Pehrson, quietly danced away with her beloved husband, Gary. As difficult as it was for her to leave her family and friends behind, it was also a relief for mom to stop being the center of so much attention as she fought her final battle with breast cancer. Mom was never one to enjoy the limelight, preferring to stay quietly and privately in the background. It would have surprised her to no end to know how many people adored her and were inspired by her. Mom had many gifts which she shared generously with others. She was unfailingly kind and compassionate. She knew how to keep a confidence. She had a beautiful voice and for 23 years sang with the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir. She loved her family and friends with her heart and soul and even in her final days was more concerned with their comfort than her own. Mom worried about her family and wanted to always keep them close, especially her father. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and included. Mom enjoyed being in the mountains listening to the rain on the roof of the trailer with her family and especially enjoyed the family trips to Orlando. Mom loved to cook and collected cook books from around the world. She entertained her friends and family with stories of cucumber gravy from her childhood although, thankfully, she never tried to make any of us eat it, not even two, no-thank-you-bites. Mom loved her work and was an exceptionally skilled legal secretary. She was calm, steady and reliable. She collected angels, literally and figuratively, because she was an angel in her own right and had a way of making the people around her want to be nicer people too. Mom would have denied that she was important, special or inspirational but she was all of those things and more. She will be missed by all who knew her but she will continue to dance, sing and live on in our hearts. Sherrie is survived by her daughters Becci, Jaime, Lisa & Paige; father John Petrovich; sister Wendy (Todd) Musig, brothers in law, Darrell (Cindy), Alan (Kathryn) Pehrson, Delmas Anderson and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gary, mother Gwendolyn Petrovich, parents in law Darrell & Dorothy Pehrson, sisters in law Sandra Anderson & Marsha Pehrson. A viewing will be held Wednesday May 8, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S State Street, Murray, UT. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 9, 2013, 1 pm at the Murray North Stake Center Chapel, 5200 S Glendon Street (700 W) with a viewing from 12:00 -12:45 pm Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
