Sheryl “Sherry” Lynn McDonald, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend was 60 years young when her heart suddenly failed and she passed away peacefully in her Kearns Utah home the morning of January 26, 2021.
Sherry was born on July 9, 1960 in Princeton, Minnesota to Gordon M. Olson and Ardeth M. Anderson. As a child, she enjoyed mothering her younger siblings and later put her big sister parenting skills to use as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She married Joseph Potts in 1987 and the couple had two children who were later raised by Sherry and her second husband, Pete McDonald, whom she married on July 18, 1992. For the past 15 years, Sherry worked at Welby Elementary in South Jordan where she was loved and appreciated and described as kind, helpful, friendly, punctual, dedicated, and a hard worker who always bent over backwards to assist anyone in need and who would always notice and share extra love with students who were underdogs. She was extremely proud of her family and spoke often about her grandkids. Sherry had a love of art, gardening, cooking, sewing, reading about history and playing with her grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. People who love her appreciate that she was never too old to be playful and silly.
Sherry is survived by her life partner Pete McDonald of Layton, her children Christopher (Kristin Olszewski) Potts and Zachary (Trista-Lea Glore) Potts, her grandchildren Alarick Potts and Riley Potts, her mother Ardeth Fischer, her step-parents Rod (Carol) Davidson, Jim (Lynda) James and Joan Olson, her siblings Pamela (Bruce) Gassman, Nicole (Marc) Cicerone, Rick Davidson, Darrin (Mary) Olson, Rebecah (Dan) Martin, Rachel Olson, Bonnie (Chris) Cunningham, her step siblings Mike (Marianne) Davidson, Tom Davidson, Joy (Denny) Malmberg, Bill (Clair) Davidson, Cindy James, Annie (Cole Manthey)James and Matt (Savannah) James, former spouse Joseph Potts of Alberta Canada, and her dog Ralphie. Sherry was preceded in death by her father Gordon Olson who passed on September 12, 2013.
