Born January 22, 1925 in Jerome, Idaho to Sidney Arthur Payne and Ogaretta Eastman. He married Thelma Green May 26, 1954. He was loved by his family and friends. Sid was a West High School graduate. He served in WWII with the US Navy. He worked for Salt Lake Hardware and Steelco. He retired as a steel salesman on January 26, 1990. He was very athletic and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Thelma; daughter, Patty (Ray) Ross; son, Dennis (Linda) Green; daughter-in-law, Chris Green; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, George and Dan. Preceded in death by his 1st wife, Norma Smith; son, Roger; father; mother; and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2006 at 12 noon at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, where friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment Murray City Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to the U of U Medical Center staff for the care and compassion during this difficult time.
