Stanley Laird Porter Obituary (1970 - 2017)

Salt Lake City, UT - Stanley Laird Porter was born November 13, 1970 in Salt Lake City, UT to Wm. DeLoy Porter and Lois J Falck. He was the sixth of seven children. He spent his early childhood in the Mesa, Arizona area then the family returned to the Salt Lake area. Stan met his wife, Cassandre’ Mattingly in 1999. They fell in love at first sight and were married in May of 2000. With Stan’s artistic skill and a love of finish carpentry, he put his brilliant talent to work in many homes and buildings across the country. In September 2016, he was diagnosed with Leukemia and thanks to the generosity of his older brother, Martin Porter, who selflessly donated his bone marrow, Stan was able to overcome the cancer. However, during his months of recovery in the hospital, he endured many life-threatening complications. He proved over and over again the strength and determination he had to regain his health in order to return home to his family. The medical staff often remarked of Stan’s strength and how hard he fought. Words can never express the appreciation the family has for all the care and love shown by all the staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute in the Bone Marrow and ICU units. The fight Stan put up against all these complications exemplifies how much strength and willpower he had, and how much he did not want to leave his family. After many months his body was not able to fight any longer and Stan was welcomed home by his sister, LeAnna Porter, who preceded him in death September 2016. He is survived by his wife, Cassandre’; 3 children: Dylan 14, Bostyn 10, and Kole 8; parents, Wm. DeLoy (Valerie) Porter, Lois (Louis) Falck; sisters: Carriene Porter, Jeannie Porter Amaya, Cynthia (Jeffrey) DeVore, Julie Brizzee; and brothers: Martin (Liz) Porter, Jason (Amanda) Porter; in-laws: Reid (Becky) Mattingly, Josh (Julie) Mattingly, Kaitlin Mattingly; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sun Ridge Ward, 5422 S. Sarah Jane Drive (5240 W.). A viewing will be held Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, from 5-7 p.m. and the day of the service from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the Sun Ridge Ward.
