Obituary for Troy Jon Breur

January 3, 1967 – December 3, 2018 (Age 51)

Bluffdale, Utah- Troy Jon Breur passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends in his Bluffdale home on December 3, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer and its effects.

Troy was born January 3, 1967 to Leonard and Gwen Breur at Cottonwood Hospital in Murray. At two years old, a tumor formed on one of his kidneys and Troy endured medical treatments that would eventually affect him throughout his life. Even though Troy dealt with medical issues, it did not keep him from being a very active child as he grew up in the Holladay area enjoying life.

Troy attended and graduated Cottonwood High School where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Melanie Mahoney. Troy attended the University of Utah and was an avid fan. Megan, Wesley and Abigail all came along and they lived in Riverton for many years as the kids grew up. Troy and Mel stayed busy with Megan’s dance, Wes’s many sports and Abi’s lacrosse. Troy was very involved with his family and if he was not helping coach, he was right there cheering them along with Melanie. Troy and Mel traveled together with friends and family and loved to be outdoors and this kept their family close all the while staying busy in the construction field.

Troy worked in the construction field mostly selling building materials, and met some of his closest friends who were contractors. Troy volunteered in many capacities and served on the Salt Lake Home Builders Association (HBA) Community Service Committee. The HBA said this after Troy’s recent passing “We witnessed him caring for the less fortunate while undergoing treatments that take an unusual toll on health. He never complained, yet came to the meetings with his normal giving spirit seeking nothing more than to find ways to help those in need. Troy was a dedicated employee working with Builders FirstSource promoting new and innovative construction ideas. He would find ways to accommodate our hurried workforce providing a calming influence in every contact. If Troy didn’t have access to a needed building material, he would find a resource to meet the requisite. His love of industry opened doors for many. Troy would be the first to contribute time, talent or money for events enabling our success of ensuring our objective of building communities. While the pains felt can only be minimized, we find comfort in knowing Troy has left a legacy that will long survive. He walked and talked an example that as we follow will bless many lives.” Troy had this same dedication to his family and his caring attitude was felt by all those who knew and associated with him.

Troy is survived by his wife, Melanie; daughter, Megan Harris (Cameron), son, Wesley and daughter, Abigail; father and mother, G. Leonard and Gwen Breur; brothers and sisters, Trent (Jessica), Stephanie Farr (Dan), Wade (Mindi), Kristin Bolton (Chad), Jennifer; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Special thanks to Dr. Laura Lambert with the Huntsman Cancer Institute for the extra special care she provided Troy. The staff and medical personnel at the Huntsman Center are excellent care givers and know how to treat patients and their families with compassion, dignity and respect.
