Velma O. Lemmon Obituary (1923 - 2016)

Velma Omega Hawkins Lemmon left this life on November 4th, two days before her 93rd birthday. She leaves a heartbroken family behind. The last of eleven children, Velma was born in Gulf, Texas, which no longer exists. She grew up on a farm, helped build bombers during World War II, and then married the love of her life on Valentine's Day 1947. Velma taught elementary school in the Houston Independent School District, and retired to Murray with her husband to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was known for her zucchini bread, pecan waffles and banana cakes. During her life, Velma loved reading, gardening, politics, and animals of all varieties, not necessarily in that order. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband Guy G. Lemmon, her brothers W. Caldeen Hawkins, Edwin A. Hawkins, Carol G. Hawkins, Odessa D. Hawkins, Clint A. Hawkins, Mac M. Hawkins, and her sisters Jessie L. Lange, Lizzie G. Hawkins, Johnnie V. Swygert, and Lou Ellen Gerland. She is survived by her son Charles L. Lemmon and his wife Irene Lemmon, and her daughter Deborah D. Smith. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jodie D. Pearson, Jill A. Snyder and her husband Matthew G. Snyder, Ryan B. Smith and his wife Emily A. Smith, and Nicholas G. Smith. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren Brandt P. Pearson, Camden M. Snyder and Luke G. Snyder. Friends may call Monday November 7th, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm and Tuesday November 8th, from 10:00am – 11:00am at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home. 4760 South State Street, Murray, UT 84107.
