William "Joe" E. Nelsen Obituary (1926 - 2012)

“Joe”William E. Nelsen passed away December 29, 2012 at the age of 86; also known by his many nicknames: Bill, Pete, Nellie, Joe. He was born July 29, 1926 in Murray, Utah, the son of Harry Alvin Nelsen and Mrytle Iva Atkinson. Joe graduated from Murray High School. He married J. Arlene Hales on September 25, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Arlene passed away August 5, 1992. Joe married Shirleen Tingey Kasenberg on April 21, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was also an active member of the LDS Church.He is survived by his wife, Shirleen; son, Collin R. Nelsen, Stephen C. (Angela) Nelsen; granddaughter, Andrea Sharee Nelsen; sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Joan Nelsen. Also survived by step-children, Susan (Dan) Kubinski, John Kasenberg and Jill (Kerry) Kreis. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall J. Nelsen; sisters, Velma I. Todd and Merna Jensen; and brothers, Alvin and Merlin Nelsen. Joe’s family would like to express their thanks to First Choice Hospice—especially to Bill and Connor.Funeral services will be Friday, January 4, 2013, at 12 Noon at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street. Viewings will be at the mortuary Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, in Joe’s honor, contributions may be made to American Indian Services, 1902 N.
