William Wendell (Bill) Gates Obituary (1952 - 2019)

William Wendell (Bill) Gates was born November 12, 1952 in Murray, Utah to Jack Ira Gates and Wanda Lee Palmer. After a long battle with illness, Bill went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2019. Bill grew up in the Salt Lake area, graduating from Bingham High School in 1970. After school he went to work for Interstate Brick Company for several years. He was married to Carma Slaugh. They later moved to Vernal Utah raised two children, Neisha and William. Bill worked as a miner at the Zeigler Chemical’s gilsonite mine in Bonanza Utah for several years in the 80s through 90s, before a back injury forced him to retire. He moved back to West Jordan and, with his sisters, cared for his mother until her passing in 2006. In 2010, he moved to Colorado, where he lived with his daughter and her family. Bill loved camping, fishing, working on cars, and watching football. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Lee Gates. He is survived by a brother, Monty Gates; sisters, Jackie (Rick) Partridge and Zelma Parry, children William Gates and Neisha (Karl) Heidelberg, and three grandchildren, Victoria, Lorelei, and Thomas William. Memorial Service will be 1 PM Wednesday, September 4th 2019 at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT, followed by interment at West Jordan Cemetery.
