View Funeral Webcast\r\n\r\nAlan M. Jones, 78, passed away peacefully at home on 9 June 2020 in West Jordan, Utah. Alan was born in Ogden, Utah on 18 October 1941 to LoRay Fackrell Brough and Paul Mervin Jones. He was raised in Utah until 1954 when his parents moved to Southern California, where he remained until he left to work and attend BYU in 1960. He served in the British Mission from October 1961-1963. Alan married Judy Ann Hill on 9 September 1966 in the St. George, Utah Temple. He received B.S. (1967) and M.S. (1969) degrees in Geology from BYU. He remained a true blue Cougar fan his entire life.\r\n\r\nAlan worked in the oil and gas industry as a petroleum geologist and executive at Conoco, Adobe Oil and Gas, Davis Oil, MidAmerica Pipeline Company (MAPCO), Consolidated Natural Gas and for the State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality as an environmental scientist. He lived in Utah, Colorado, California, Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania and Louisiana. \r\n\r\nHe shared his love of geology and rockhounding with anyone who would listen. He spent many beloved hours rock hunting with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews who cherish their treasures and the time he spent with them. He also fished wherever he was. He loved to fish with his children and grandchildren spending most of his time patiently untangling their fishing line.\r\n\r\nHe held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including, serving in seven bishoprics and as a high councilor, stake executive secretary, high priest group leader, teacher, clerk, and others.\r\n\r\nAlan is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Judy; four children: Kimberly Anne Crider (James), Bryce Alan Jones (Rebecca), Heather Suzanne Jones, and Betsie Lyn Price; eight grandchildren: Benjamin Ottosen; Tyce, Mary, Cameron and Harrison Jones; and Kess, Kira and Natasha Price. Also surviving are siblings Dorothy Belle Jones McGinnis, Sandi Jones Howlett, Grant Paul Jones, sister-in-law Marilyn (Lyn) Ford, and brother-in-law Stephen Hill. Preceding him in death are siblings: Paula Marilyn (Lynn) Jones Campbell, Ralph Fackrell Wilson, and Daryl LoRay Brough Descalso (Richard), and son-in-law Andrew Price.\r\n\r\nThere will be a public viewing Saturday, June 13, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah, 84095. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. by invitation only (masks required).
