Cody Layne Whitney, age 49, passed away August 31, 2019, at home after a valiant battle with cancer.\r\n\r\nBorn August 14, 1970 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Garth Benson Whitney and Barbara Bernards Whitney.\r\n\r\nCody graduated from Brighton High School, earned his Eagle Scout Award and served as an LDS missionary in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission.\r\n\r\nHe loved the out-of-doors, Fall being his favorite time of year. He enjoyed fishing and staying at the cabin where he would always watch out for any wildlife. He could spot the deer easily and would watch them outside the cabin windows bedded down on the property and photograph them.\r\n\r\nCody had a very close relationship with his 3 nieces, Whitney, Nicole, and Callie and 4 nephews, Brock, Derrick, Mitch, and Blake. He supported them at all their recitals, baseball, football, volleyball games…his camera always out and ready to capture special moments. He was “The Greatest Uncle in the World.”\r\n\r\nHe will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of music. He worked as a Ticket Broker for sporting events, the cultural arts and concerts. Cody enjoyed attending many of these and loved collecting vinyl records to be signed by the various artists and having his photo taken with them.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, brothers Matt (Lynda), Shane (Connie), Dallas (Allison), sister Lisa (Keith) and many loving family members and friends.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be Friday, September 6, 2019 at 12:00 pm at the Butler Hill Ward, 2695 E 7000 So, Cottonwood Heights, UT with visitation prior to service at 10:30 am. Interment Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 E. Bengal Blvd.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to thank the team of physicians and staff of the LDS Hospital Loveland BMT Clinic and Intermountain Home Care & Hospice staff for their expertise care and compassion through his long and difficult journey.
