“Oh Brother!”Murray, Utah—Dale R. Schirm died on February 2, 2010. He was born to Charles and Hazel Rivenburg Schirm, in Winterset, Iowa, April 19, 1919. He grew up in Winterset, Iowa. On June 1, 1940, he married his childhood sweetheart, Doris Grout, and settled in Denver, Colorado.During World War II, Dale served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his return, Dale worked for Mountain Bell (Qwest) for over 30 years. In 1962, Dale and Doris, along with their daughters Marcia and Melodee, moved to Murray, Utah. Dale was a square dance caller for the Rocketeers Club in the 60’s and 70’s, and made many treasured friends. Throughout their marriage, he and his wife of 67 years together enjoyed square dancing, fishing, and spending time with family at their cabin in Fruitland. After Dale’s retirement in 1978, their winter home-base was in Mesa, Arizona, while traveling in their motor home throughout Mexico with their friends. Doris passed away October 30, 2007. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Melodee and Craig Cowan; six grandsons, Darren and Tammy Ottley, Brad and Tina Ottley, Doug and Cheryl Ottley, Cabe and Susan Cowan, Scott and Lisa Cowan, Taylor and Amber Cowan; 9 great-grandchildren, Presley and Caden Ottley, Brent and Ian Ottley, Ronan and Collin Ottley, Christian and Olivia Cowan, and Cole Cowan. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Dennis Ottley (Dee) and two sisters, Rosemary Tongish and Betty Godbey. Preceding him in death are his wife, Doris; his daughter, Marcia Ottley; his infant grandsons Brent Alan Ottley and John Christian Cowan; an infant great-grandson Alec Douglas Ottley; and an infant sister.A viewing will be held Friday, February 5, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel, 4760 South State Street, with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 So Vine Street.
