Rita was born on February 21, 1920 in Amsterdam, Holland to loving parents Evert and Maria Snijders van Gulik. \nShe was raised in Holland where she met her sweetheart Jaap (Jack) Kemker. They courted for 5 years during WWII and were married on April 11, 1946 in Amsterdam. \nIn February 1949, they immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah where their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and began and reared their family. Rita was a loving wife and mother, her two most cherished roles. \nRita studied fashion design and tailoring while in Amsterdam and made beautiful clothing for her family and others. \nShe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was actively involved in her branch in Amsterdam. Before her husband’s death in 1972, Jack and Rita sent one son on a mission. Continuing to rear her children in the gospel, Rita sent two more sons on missions. She was a devoted Visiting Teacher, sometimes visiting up to 25 sisters each month in the Winder 3rd Ward where she lived for many years. \nRita was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jack G. Kemker and her sister, Marjo Blankman. She is survived by her children W. Robin Kemker, Luana E. Zwang, Ralph J. Kemker (Corlene), Ronald L. Kemker, Leon E. Kemker (Kristine). She has been blessed with 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. \nFuneral services will be held at the Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) South Jordan, Utah, on Wednesday at 11:00 am where friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm. And one hour prior to funeral services. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. \nThe family would like to thank all the staff at the Legacy House & Cottages of South Jordan who have loved and cared for Rita for over 5 years and also to Dr. Bennett, Jessica, Mindy and Angela at Sunbrook Hospice for their loving care in her last few weeks.
