On Friday, September 27th, 2019, John J. McKenzie, loving husband, brother, father of two children and grandfather of three, passed away at the age of 65 surrounded by family and loved ones. John was born in Barberton, Ohio on April 13, 1954 to Arthur & Mildred McKenzie. John was a Board Certified Toxicologist, graduating on the Dean’s List from the Medical College of Ohio after completing his undergraduate studies at Iowa Wesleyan College. He developed and advanced his career in four states and three countries within the Pacific Rim. John was committed to the development of various studies throughout his 30+ year career - most notable was his work toward finding cures for diabetes, Alzheimer’s and cancer. On June 12th, 1982, he married Pamela (McGuire). They raised two children: Stephanie Wesson (Chicago) and A. Kyle McKenzie (Indianapolis). Professionally, John was known and admired for his persistence, discipline, and determination and these characteristics also carried through to his interests and hobbies outside of work. John had a passion for nature, photographing the outdoors, fitness, body building and especially biking— logging over 4,000 miles annually on his mountain and road bikes between 1999-2001. John was known and loved by many for his quick wit, dry humor and gentle, caring spirit. John was preceded in death by his mother and father: Art & Millie (Wadsworth, Ohio). He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Utah), his children, Stephanie and Kyle, his brother T. Michael and sister Patricia (Ohio) and many nieces and nephews who loved and adored him. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held in his honor on November 16, 2019 at the Palm House of the Franklin Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus, Ohio from 11am - 3pm. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, and in John’s memory, please give to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, alzfdn.org.
