“Jack”John Merrill Poulsen passed away peacefully March 26, 2012. He was born July 30, 1921 in West Jordan, Utah to Joseph Richard and Emma Elizabeth Pehrson Poulsen. He married Violet LaVaughn Johnson on October 30, 1945; later sealed in the Los Angeles, California Temple.John served his country in WWII. His brigade invaded Normandy on Utah Beach. He was later wounded, receiving the Purple Heart. Out of the 354 men in his unit, only John and two others survived.John was an honest and hardworking man who was a great role model. He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa with a great sense of humor who never met a stranger. He was loved by all and will be missed.He is survived by his wife, Violet; daughters, Diane (Bill) Perkins; Linda (Bo) Picklesimer; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and loving nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by an infant son, John Richard Poulsen; his parents; and five brothers; and two sisters.Funeral services will be Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray 24th Ward, 755 E. Three Fountains Dr. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, and at the church on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment: West Jordan City Cemetery.
